Introduction
Intricate eyeliner, highlighting, contouring, and everything in between are just a few examples of full-coverage makeup styles that are available. While we all enjoy a well-done makeup appearance, there are sometimes not enough hours in the day to dedicate extra time to developing a regular beauty routine. We’ll be the first to confess that, when it comes to applying makeup, it can occasionally be beneficial to go back to the fundamentals. And if you’re new to makeup, starting with a quick and easy regimen will make it easier for you to get accustomed to the different products, textures, and your skin. You’ll be able to explore like your favourite Instagram artist in no time after you have a few fundamentals down. And it needn’t take much time to become an expert makeup artist. In fact, with the right makeup tips, you can put together a makeup routine in under 10 minutes. To accomplish that, we enlisted the advice of renowned makeup artist Katie Mellinger.
Check out the following for a step-by-step tutorial on how to apply makeup in no more than 10 minutes.
1. Begin with the eyes
If you want to apply makeup swiftly and effectively, you should choose the eye makeup rather than the facial makeup that you’ve probably heard cosmetics gurus argue about. Before applying makeup to the rest of your face, Katie Mellinger advises beginning with your eyes. “In this way, all the hard work you put into your face makeup won’t be ruined if you get any drop off from your eye makeup.”
If any of your makeup does happen to slip off, Mellinger says you can quickly clean it up with makeup remover before continuing to apply makeup to the rest of your face. There is no need to retouch your makeup or spend time.
2. Employ Your Fingers
To achieve a flawless makeup look, you don’t need to spend a ton of money on expensive brushes and blenders. According to Mellinger, “Your fingers provide fantastic tools for quick application.” If it’s good enough for the pros, it’s good enough for us! “When making a quick cosmetic look, I use my fingers nearly exclusively on myself.” Not to add, using this application technique will allow you to spend a little more money on your other favourite beauty items. Just make sure to wash them first. “Using your fingers is so much more time-efficient than whipping out a brush or sponge that you’ll have to clean later, and they are wonderful for blending cream products.”
3. Make Sure to Use a Damp Makeup Sponge if You Do
Although using your fingers to apply makeup quickly is a surefire approach, you may still use tried-and-true beauty products if you’d rather not get your hands messy. And if you decide to utilize a cosmetic sponge as your preferred method of application, be sure to use it damp rather than dry. “This will not only improve the quality of your application, but it will also use up less product in the long term,” says Mellinger.
After putting your sponge in lukewarm water for 30 seconds, gently compress it to drain any remaining water.
4. Make Use of Multi-Tasking Products
Products with several uses will be your best friend when it comes to accelerating your makeup procedure. To facilitate quick application and remove the element of chance from colour matching, Mellinger says she loves multipurpose products. “Apply the colour with a damp beauty blender to the apples of your cheeks for your blush, then use it on your lips to match your lip colour to your cheeks. If you like a monochromatic feel, you can even swipe and blend on your eyelids for a one-colour product look.”
5. Select the Right Brow Product
Another important tip for quickly applying makeup is to have an eyebrow pencil that you can use for your full brow appearance. To save time, Mellinger suggests searching for brow pencils with a spoolie on one side and a pencil on the other.
“Not only is it available in a variety of colours—three cheers for redhead-friendly hues—but the pencil tip is multi-functional, allowing you to draw with a larger stroke in one direction while sketching hair-like details in the other.
I use the wide way to fill in the brow to give depth and then I twist in the opposite direction to draw in individual ‘hairs’ as needed. To soften and make it as natural looking as possible, I brush out the entire brow with the spoolie end.”
6. Avoid rushing to correct errors
Let’s face it, we are all only human. Additionally, rushing almost always results in mistakes. One error that is all too typical? applying mascara too rapidly and getting a smear on your eyelid or underneath your eye. Even though it can seem tempting, resist the urge to wipe it off while it’s still wet. Mellinger adds that doing this will merely spread it all over the lovely eye application you just performed, adding more time to your entire application. She suggests waiting until it is completely dry before wiping it away with a cotton swab or a clean, dry spoolie brush.
7. Take Good Care Of Your Skin
The most crucial phase, arguably, is preparing and caring for your skin. Having a clean canvas to paint on will make applying makeup much simpler because the skin serves as the canvas for all things applied. Use a cleanser every day, an exfoliant two to three times per week, and moisturizing cream in the morning before putting on makeup and at night before going to bed to keep your skin looking its best.
